A new assessment of maternal and child health in Boone County is available to the public and identifies family relationships, child development and community support systems as the county’s top priority area for the coming years

The 2026 Boone County Maternal Child Health Assessment examines the health of children through age 18 and <a href="https://healthylife7.com/is-it-true-that-its-harder-for-women-to-do-pull/” title=”Is it true that … it’s harder for women to do pull”>women through age 44, representing about 44% of Boone County’s population, according to a community announcement

Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services conducts the assessment every five years to help determine which statewide maternal and child health priorities should receive the greatest local attention. Additional information is available through como.gov

After reviewing maternal and child health indicators, stakeholder survey responses and a community capacity assessment, public health officials selected the county’s priority issue as “Strengths-based services and supports to promote healthy family relationships and functioning, enhance resilience, foster social connections, and support children’s social and emotional development.”

Assessment findings will guide future planning

The findings are expected to help shape programs and services aimed at supporting families and children in Boone County during the next five years and beyond, according to the announcement

“The MCH Assessment helps staff identify the needs of our local maternal and child populations, ensuring that PHHS programming and services are directed toward making the biggest impacts for our community,” Sarah Varvaro, Public Health Planning and Promotion manager, said in the announcement

Public Health and Human Services works with residents and community partners to develop strategies that address health needs at multiple levels, including individual, community and policy approaches. The agency also emphasizes prevention efforts intended to reduce poor health outcomes before they occur, according to the announcement

Information about statewide maternal and child health priorities is available through health.mo.gov/families/healthy-families/maternal-child-health

    Funding information

The project is funded in part through the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services Maternal Child Health Services Contract DH220051072 and is supported by the Health Rend Human Services under grant B04MC52935. The grant totals $12,742,189, with $0 from nongovernmental

Protecting mature trees from storms and disease can reduce Chicago deaths, study finds

    By healthylife7August 17, 20260

Even a minuscule, 0.03% increase in Chicago’s tree canopy each year could save the lives of more than 100 residents citywide by offering relief from extreme heat, a recent study found. But that has to happen while keeping current mature trees alive, researchers say, as increasingly intense severe storms like last week’s knock them down,…
