Mr Effiom Bassey explained that the Carnival Fitness Jam was an initiative of the Commission introduced in 2025 to run from June to December, as part of preparations for the annual Carnival Calabar
According to him, the initiative is aimed at reducing physical fatigue associated with the carnival dry runs and the main carnival, while encouraging participants to maintain physical fitness
He said the exercise brings together carnival marshals, band leaders, revellers, fitness instructors and members of the public to prepare physically for the carnival season
“The essence of it is to reduce the fatigue that usually comes during the dry run and the carnival. We have marshals, band leaders, revellers and the general public come out to exercise and keep themselves fit, getting ready for the carnival dry runs and the carnival itself,” he stated
The Commissioner, Mr Effiom Bassey emphasized the importance of regular exercise to healthy living and urged other MDAs and residents of the State to participate actively in the fitness sessions
He noted that the initiative was open to everyone, stressing that collective participation would further promote a healthy lifestyle across the State
“We all know that health is wealth, and exercise is one of the ways you can extend your life. We call on the State Government and other MDAs to join us in every Carnival Fitness Jam to sweat it out and exercise together,” Sir Effiom Bassey said
On the 2026 edition of Carnival Calabar, the Commissioner assured residents and visitors of an exciting celebration, noting that the event would mark the 21st edition of Carnival Calabar
