    Penn State Health, Penn State College of Medicine recognized as best places to work for disability inclusion

    Penn State Health and Penn State College of Medicine have been named “World’s Top Disability Inclusive Businesses” in the 2026 Disability Index®. Both earned recognition at the advanced proficiency level, the second highest tier in the index

    This is the fourth consecutive year the health system has received a high score and the first year the College of Medicine has participated

    The Disability Index is an independent, third-party reing workforce inclusion of people with disabilities. Created as a joint initiative of Disability:IN and the American Association of People with Disabilities, the index provides measurable actions that promote accessibility and inclusion

    “It’s gratifying to see both organizations recognized for our shared commitment to incorporating people with disabilities into the work we do, the education we provide and the care we offer,” said Dr. Inginia Genao, vice dean and vice president of Health Advancement and Community Engagement. “This recognition is evidence of the success of basing our policies and practices on our values of respect, integrity, teamwork and excellence.”

    Global data

    The 2026 index drew on submissions from 45 countries, an almost six-fold increase in global reach from 2025

    This year, the index measured progress in nine categories: accessibility, accommodations and adjustments, benefits, leadership, recruitment, supplier inclusion, career development, culture and, new for the index, marketing and communications. The most widely adopted practices among 2026 participants were:

    • Mental health and well-being benefits
    • Flexible and remote work accommodations
    • Long- and short-term disability income protections
