One thing that makes Atlantic Beach unique is its collection of private beach clubs. Unlike many other coastal communities, where visitors simply bring a chair and towel to the public beach, Atlantic Beach offers a more private experience that has become a cherished tradition for generations of Long Island families
Memberships vary by club, with options ranging from seasonal lockers and shower cabins to private cabanas and larger family accommodations. Prices differ based on the club, the accommodations and location, but all operate as private membership facilities rather than public beaches
“It’s been one of the greatest gifts we’ve given our children,” Carolyn Argento, a member of Silver Point Beach Club since 1998, said. “They spent their summers there making friends, attending camp, swimming from morning until sunset and creating memories that have stayed with them into adulthood.”
Silver Point is New York’s largest beach club, offering more than 100 acres of oceanfront property, extensive programming, multiple pools, sports facilities, children’s day camp, dining and hundreds of cabanas and lockers. Built in the 1930’s, Silver Point has been providing a special experience to members for decades
“Now, one of life’s greatest joys is watching my grandchildren experience that same magic,” Argento, Sales Manager of Douglas Elliman’s Long Beach and Merrick offices and licensed associate real estate broker, said. “They spend the entire day playing in the surf, splashing in the pool, being with family, watching some TV to cool off, taking a quick shower before heading home and falling asleep in the car after a day filled with sunshine and laughter.”
For many, the beach club is more than a place to spend the day. It’s where children learn to swim, teenagers get their first jobs, families celebrate holidays and lifelong friendships are formed. Some families maintain memberships for generations, returning each summer to the same cabana, the same stretch of sand and familiar faces
“It isn’t simply a place you belong — it’s a community,” Argento said. “The people you see every summer become lifelong friends, the cabana courts become an extension of your neighborhood and the court becomes your family.”
Whether you’re looking for an active social atmosphere, fine dining or a peaceful place to enjoy the ocean, Atlantic Beach’s private clubs offer something for everyone. But more than anything, they offer a tradition — one that continues to bring generations of families together each summer
