The federal government is set to spend over $6.5M on expanding access to <a href="https://healthylife7.com/introspexion-secures-uae-energy-sector-mental-health-and-wellbeing-contract-news-and-statistics/" title="IntrospeXion Secures UAE Energy Sector Mental Health and Wellbeing Contract – News and Statistics”>mental health care and wellness support for Yukon youth and young adults
The funding made by Health Canada will be used to operate the first Integrated Youth Services (IYS) Hub in the Yukon
The program will be delivered through BYTE-Empowering Youth Society, which will establish a dedicated space for the hub in Whitehorse alongside a mobile wellness unit that will travel to Yukon communities to deliver services, according to a press release by BYTE on Aug. 18
The hub will deliver a range of mental health, primary care and general wellbeing supports for youth and young adults between the ages of 12 and 25. By acting as a one stop shop for a wide variety of care needs, the IYS hub aims to help break down barriers to access that impede young people from accessing care
“The hub will provide a space for health and social service organizations to co-locate and deliver services under one roof,” said BYTE Wellness Director, Abbey Gartner during a press conference announcing the new program
“IYS is an opportunity to strengthen those connections, to reduce duplication of services, and make it easier for young people to find the support that they need,” Gartner said
While the program will be primarily delivered through BYTE, Gartner said much of the work will be done by dozens of partner community organizations and care providers who already have connections within the community with the new hub providing “an opportunity to strengthen those connections, to reduce duplication of services, and make it easier for young people to find the support that they need.”
