A new public health vending machine in Dorchester’s Codman Square offers residents everything from socks to hygiene products to Narcan kits, and all you need to input is your zip code.

Codman Square Health has launched a new vending machine in front of its clinic, offering items like socks, snacks, hygiene kits, first aid kits and naloxone

“This vending machine is very important for our community,” said Dr. Guy Fish. “The principal thing that we’re bringing to the community are Narcan kits. These are kits that reverse overdose.”
To access the vending machine, your ZIP code must be entered. It will then dispense your items for free
“In the city of Boston, there is a mortality gap between Black residents and all others,” Fish said. “Particularly with Black men, the No. 1 cause of early mortality is substance use disorder.”
Still, he said socks are the top item being dispensed from the machine
“Socks are a big item,” he said. “You’d be very, very surprised by that.”

Dorchester residents say their community is often forgotten, and they’re glad the items are available for those who need it
“I think the vending machine is a good thing to have in the community,” said resident Jameel Scott. “It lends support to people who don’t really have the means to get these items themselves, so it’s a good thing — great thing.”
Codman Square Health says the vending machine isn’t going anywhere and is stocked daily in mornings and evenings when needed
