Central Maine Healthcare hospital patients could be owed up to $5,000 from data breach

STATEWIDE (WGME) — If you’re a patient at a hospital owned by Central Maine Healthcare, you could be owed up to $5,000
It’s part of a settlement the company reached over a data breach last year

Patients need to fill out an online form to document losses, and if they don’t have anything to document, they can still get $50

CMH agreed to pay more than $1.3 million to settle a class action lawsuit over last year’s breach. The signed agreement says CMH mailed notification letters to approximately 218,884 individuals whose information may have been impacted
The health system’s IT network was breached sometime between March 19 and June 1, 2025. The breach wasn’t discovered until the following June. Patient names, birthdays, Social Security numbers and health information may have been accessed
Patients who have losses to document because of the breach can file a claim online and get up to $5,000. People without documentation can file a claim for an estimated $50
Claims must be filed by September 28
