N.C. (WNCT) — Food Lion grocery store located at 2460 Stantonsburg Rd.hosted the monthly Penny Pinchers Tour which is a program that’s designed to help people shop for healthy food on a budget
“It was birthed in the early 2000’s by the Interfaith Shuttle out of Raleigh asking us to help people who were not very well tuned to buying healthy on a budget,”said Dr. Kathryn Kolasa, Professor Emeritus Brody School of Medicine, Dept. of Family Medicine
This program is focused on the mission of helping individuals to eat healthier while still being able to save money. Its mission is also to help people understand that eating healthy food can not only be nutritious but delicious as well

“The Penny Pinchers Healthy grocery store tour, our goal and mission is really trying to educate the community about healthier options in the grocery store, what ingredients to look for, also just showing that hey you can make and create a healthy meal on a budget,” said De’Vette Thomas, Community Health Manager for ECU Health
Anyone who is a citizen of Pitt County is encouraged to participate in the tours. “Every participant will receive a $15 giftcard so you’ll use all the information you’ve learned in that hour,” said Thomas
