During the past few years, the “Make America Healthy Again” initiative has deeply impacted what is marketed as a healthy lifestyle and diet in the U.S. Though RFK Jr.’s reimagined food pyramid focuses heavily on red meat, saturated fat, and dairy, LGBTQ+ nutritionists and food experts say this isn’t reflective of a healthy, balanced diet

The Trump administration might say the priority is theoretically maximizing muscle, testosterone, and other signifiers of traditional Western masculinity, but what does it actually mean to eat holistically? With the help of Alex Hall, cofounder of The Bottom’s Digest, an educational platform helping people find foods that make bottoming more comfortable, Out put together a Gay Food Pyramid, best equipped to help people maintain a balanced diet that allows your gut to move smoothly to do the things you love — like bottoming!

“A happy butt truly starts with a happy gut,” Hall says. “The gut microbiome thrives on a diverse range of plant-based foods, so the base of my pyramid would be rich in high-fiber vegetables, fruits, legumes, and grains so the microbiome is being fed well. Not only are these foods incredible for your health, but they will make prep time a breeze for the long term. A lot of people pack in fiber and pray, but fiber really works best when you stay consistent with it in your diet.”

According to the Healthy Eating Plate, per Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, which prioritizes the composition of meals as opposed to serving sizes, whole grains like quinoa, oats, and brown rice should account for one quarter of one’s plate for a meal. Vegetables should comprise half the plate, with an emphasis on high-fiber options like kale, green peas, and corn. As illustrated in the Gay Food Pyramid, protein should also take up one quarter of one’s plate; limit red meat in favor of plant-based options like high fiber legumes, chia seeds, and nuts, or fish and poultry. Much like what Hall suggests for a bottom-friendly diet, the Healthy Eating Plate model also suggests limiting dairy as much as you can.

Perched on the pyramid’s top, sugary treats are OK every now and again. But ultimately, it’s important to prioritize fiber intake, vegetables, and healthy lifestyle choices like regular exercise and sleep
