Ark. (KAIT) – Strong winds Tuesday afternoon severely damaged the roof of the Cross County High School gymnasium, school officials said

Officials said the winds significantly damaged the gymnasium roof and the awning of the ARCare clinic on campus

At the time, the women’s basketball team was inside the gym practicing, but the athletes were able to get into a safe room

The school said no students or staff were injured during the weather event

“We are currently assessing the damage and working with the appropriate officials to determine next steps,” the school said on Facebook. “We appreciate the quick actions of our staff and coaches, whose focus on student safety made all the difference. Thank you to everyone who has reached out with concern and support.”

The National Weather Service confirmed the damage as storm damage
