Shinsegae Food to Export Samgyetang to the U.S. for the first time Enters more than 100 U.S. stores with 8,000 bags of vinegarExport product lineups and distribution networks
Shinsegae Food will export its signature summer health food “Nutrient Samgyetang” to the United States for the first time. As K-food’s export items are gradually diversified, their influence on the global stage is expanding
On the 8th, Shinsegae Food announced that it will proceed with the first export of ‘Nutrient Samgyetang’ to the United States, and will depart about 8,000 bags of initial supplies this month
Nutrition Samgyetang is a health convenience food introduced by Shinsegae Food in 2022. It is characterized by boiling a whole domestic chicken with glutinous rice, ginseng, and garlic in domestic vegetable broth so that it can easily enjoy a deep taste and rich nutrition at the level of a specialty store. Last year, it recorded 500,000 cumulative sales in Korea, proving its product competitiveness in the simple health food market
The “Nutrient Samgyetang” to be exported this time will be supplied to a total of more than 100 offline stores, including large Korean marts such as Mega Mart in the U.S., and representative ethnic markets such as Tokyo Central, where demand for K-food is high
Shinsegae Food plans to expand its export product lineup and distribution network by monitoring the reactions of local consumers, starting with the export of the first volume of “Nutrient Samgyetang.”
“We will introduce ‘Nutrient Samgyetang’ for the first time in the U.S. market, which has gained steady popularity in Korea and has proven its taste and quality,” a Shinsegae Food official said. “We will diversify our product line-up with marketability through steady local response and market monitoring, and strive to secure local distribution networks and expand product power.”
Other food companies are also active in launching samgyetang. CJ Cheil Jedang launched a new samgyetang product aimed at the peak summer season. In collaboration with Chef Yoon Na-ra, they launched “Bibigo Samgyetang,” and they added a whole domestic chicken to save the moist juices. In particular, he added his own secret recipe, “Woong,” to maximize the savory flavor, while catching the unique smell of chicken and completing a clean taste. It is designed as a refrigerated product to complete a specialty store-level texture, and bone and lean meat are easily separated, increasing the convenience of food intake.
Meanwhile, as of May, the average price of one serving of samgyetang in Seoul was 18,154 won, up 2.8% from the previous year. It is 25.5 percent higher than five years ago (14,462 won). In other words, it has increased by 1,000 won every year. The continuous launch of samgyetang in the food industry seems to be related to this
