An Arizona State hockey newcomer collapsed following a morning team workout around 8:30 a.m. on August 20 and remains hospitalized
“The university offers its support for the student-athlete, their family and all of our student-athletes during this difficult time,” Chris Fiscus, ASU’s VP of media relations and strategic communications, said in a statement
The school did not disclose any details about the player’s health status following the incident, which occurred on the first day of classes for ASU’s fall semester. Individuals close to the situation told Sun Devilt for his family — that the player was hospitalized in critical condition with a heat-related illness
A 911 call came at around 8:30 a.m. following an approximately 45-minute, team-sanctioned workout on Thursday morning. Tempe Fire Medical Rescue was dispatched to an area near Mullett Arena, where the player was treated before being transported to a nearby hospital
The player is one of 18 newcomers on Sun Devil Hockey’s 2026-27 roster
