AYNOR, S.C. (WPDE) —A Horry County teacher, author and longtime personal trainer is partnering with a local wedding venue to launch a free community program designed to strengthen physical, mental and spiritual well-being

Marti Schutte, a physical education and weightlifting teacher at Aynor High School and a personal trainer for more than 25 years, is teaming up with Melissa Nobles, owner of The Blessed Barn in Aynor, to offer a six-week “Faith & Fitness” series beginning July 20

The free program will be held on Monday evenings at The Blessed Barn. Each one-hour session will begin at 7 p.m., with participants asked to arrive by 6:50 p.m

Every gathering will include a short devotional, a beginner-friendly workout designed for all fitness levels and conclude with a time of prayer

Schutte said the idea grew from the response to her memoir, The Porch God Promised, which shares her family’s story of heartbreak, faith, forgiveness and restoration

“What began as a personal testimony has opened doors for conversations about hope, resilience and God’s faithfulness during life’s most difficult seasons,” Schutte said.

Nobles invited Schutte to bring that message to The Blessed Barn, a venue typically known for hosting weddings and family celebrations. Together, they hope to transform the space one evening each week into a place where community members can connect, encourage one another and focus on their overall well-being

Organizers say the goal is to provide a welcoming environment where participants can build relationships, grow in their faith and take positive steps toward healthier lifestyles

The program comes at a time when many people continue to face challenges related to stress, anxiety and isolation, Schutte said

“We hope this becomes a place where neighbors can come together, support one another and use faith and fitness as tools for healthier living,” she said.

The six-week series is free, and no registration fee is required. Participants are encouraged to bring a Bible, water bottle and a towel or exercise mat

The Faith & Fitness schedule includes:

    • July 20
    • July 27
    • Aug. 3
    • Aug. 10
    • Aug. 17
    • Aug. 24

No previous fitness experience is required, and organizers say all ages and fitness levels are welcome

The Blessed Barn is located at 3500 Nobles Farm Road in Aynor
