Bertie County agencies and schools join active shooter training exercise
BERTIE COUNTY, N.C. — First responders, school staff and students in Bertie County recently took part in an active shooter training exercise aimed at preparing agencies for a possible emergency
According to the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office, the drill was held Aug. 11 through Martin Community College
The sheriff’s office said Bertie County Emergency Management and Emergency Services helped host the training
Several law enforcement, emergency management and health care agencies participated, along with faculty, staff and students from Bertie County Public Schools
Officials said the exercise was designed to give participants a better understanding of what an active shooter response could look like in a real-world situation
Agencies involved included North Carolina Emergency Management, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the N.C. Department of Public Safety, the Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office, Scotland Neck Police Department and Murfreesboro Police Department
Emergency services and emergency management agencies from Hertford, Washington and Edgecombe counties also participated
ECU Health Police Department, ECU Health Bertie and ECU Health Roanoke-Chowan were among the health care partners involved in the drill
The sheriff’s office also thanked instructors and local groups that provided food, drinks and other support for the training
