Annapolis senior living community readies ‘Carnival for a Cause’ to fight Alzheimer’s disease

ANNAPOLIS, Md. —
It’s carnival season, and next week in Annapolis, there is a special event at a senior living community to raise money and awareness for Alzheimer’s disease
“Carnival for a Cause” will be good for children of all ages with a carnival-like atmosphere at Ginger Cove Retirement Community in Annapolis, where residents got a sneak peek on Friday ahead of the inaugural event

Ginger Cove offers everything from aging-at-home programs to nursing care, and next week, Carnival for a Cause will raise money and awareness in the fight to end Alzheimer’s disease
“We feel like we want to be a re community, whether it’s independent living all the way to our skilled nursing, and so it was a cause that was close to our heart,” said Samantha Williams, the executive director of Ginger Cove at Home
Lasting Tributes Funeral Home will have its band perform, and Wild Kid Acres will provide a petting zoo for the event so that children of all ages can play games
“We’ve got a dunk tank, petting zoo, pony rides, and face painters (that) will have treats. Food trucks,” Williams told WBAL-TV 11 News
Carnival for a Cause supports the 2026 Walk to End Alzheimer’s campaign, and it’s particularly important to Bob Kight, whose wife, Barbara, developed Alzheimer’s disease six months after moving to the community
“(I) would like to see something so that our kids coming behind us might have more to work with; there might be a cure somewhere along the lines, and maybe it’s not totally eliminated, but at least a lot of the effects have been diminished in terms of what it does to a family,” Knight told WBAL-TV 11 News
Everyone is invited and people don’t have to be residents or know someone who lives at Ginger Grove to enjoy the festivities from 3-6 p.m. on Aug. 13
