– Millions of Medicare beneficiaries can now access GLP-1 weight-loss medication for $50 a month under a new option called the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge Program
According to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the program will provide eligible Medicare Part D beneficiaries with access to certain GLP-1 drugs between July 1, 2026, and December 31, 2027
Supporters say the program is intended to respond to soaring demand for GLP-1 drugs, as more patients look for help managing weight
As more people consider these medications, consumers are looking for straightforward information about eligibility, coverage, and how to manage treatment safely with their healthcare team
Deanna Worth, a pharmacy manager with Walmart, said pharmacists are often a first stop for patients who need help navigating the process
“We know healthcare can be complicated, and our customers have questions, and we’re here to help them understand their options, answer their questions, and help them to feel more confident throughout the process,” Worth said
She said the conversations pharmacists have with customers go beyond the prescription itself, especially as many people focus on broader wellness goals
“What customers are telling us is they’re not just interested in losing weight. They want to feel better, have more energy and just improve their overall health. That’s where we as pharmacists can really make a difference,” Worth said
Worth also highlighted an upcoming community event for anyone wanting to check in on their health or ask questions in person
“On July 25th, [Walmart stores are] offering free health and vision screenings, low-cost immunizations, and one-on-one consultations with your local Walmart pharmacist,” Worth said
Those who are interested in starting a new health care journey or want a checkup on health are encouraged to attend Walmart Wellness Day, a nationwide event offering the following services:
