Texas (KLTV) – Infectious disease specialist Dr. Ed Dominguez, a member of the station’s medical team, addressed three health topics Thursday, including deaths linked to a flesh-eating bacteria in Louisiana, a new study on high blood pressure medication and research on abdominal fat as a predictor of heart disease

Five people have died in Louisiana so far this year after being infected with a flesh-eating bacteria. Dominguez discussed what the bacteria is, where people may encounter it and how to stay safe

A new study from the American Heart Association found that millions of Americans with untreated high blood pressure may now need medication. Dominguez addressed why the medication is being recommended and which patients would benefit most

A new study from the American College of Cardiology found that abdominal fat may be a better predictor of heart disease than body mass index, or BMI. Dominguez discussed why researchers say abdominal fat could be a more accurate measure and what steps people can take to reduce their risk of heart disease
