OKEECHOBEE – The Okeechobee Rotary Club is teaming up with the Okeechobee County Library to promote reading and physical fitness
At the July 23 meeting of the Okeechobee County Commission, Toni Wiersma of the Okeechobee Rotary Club presented the county with a donation of $5,000 to purchase display frames for a Story Walk on the Darell Enfinger Sports Complex Fitness Trail
A Story Walk is an outdoor installation that places laminated pages of a children’s book on sequential posts along a park trail, combining early literacy with physical activity
Wiersma said children read the story as they progress along the trail, and each stop on the trail has an activity for the kids to do
She said the money for the donation came from Rotary fundraisers
The Fitness Trail, which opened in January 2025, was made possible through the generous support of a Land and Water Conservation Fund Grant and the Rotary Club of Okeechobee.
