Sankalp Sinha also revealed that he is currently building his own software company and intends to continue operating without a permanent workplace.
As organisations continue to debate office attendance and hybrid working, one entrepreneur has shared why he believes embracing remote work nearly a decade ago has reshaped both his professional journey and personal life
Sankalp Sinha, founder of NextDoorCompany, reflected on his experience in a post on X, saying he adopted a fully remote working model in 2018 and has had no desire to return to a conventional office since
Referring to Bengaluru’s residential communities, Sinha wrote, “In Bangalore, the best ‘office’ you can get is a gated-community which has generous landscape.”
He added, “I went fully remote 8 years ago and haven’t looked back since. Being remote unlocks unimaginable opportunities for you.”
According to Sinha, one of the biggest advantages has been the ability to continue working while living in different locations for extended periods, rather than visiting them briefly as a tourist
Describing his experience, he wrote, “It can take you to places, cities, countries that you couldn’t have been before. Since 2018, I’ve travelled and worked from about 40 cities around the world with an average of 3 weeks of stay per city.”
He said spending several weeks in each destination gave him an opportunity to understand local life beyond the usual tourist experience
“It allowed me to see the city with great detail & ease, I came to observe and take in it’s culture, meet its people, and obviously see the ‘touristy’ spots tourists come for,” he wrote
Sinha also revealed that he is currently building his own software company and intends to continue operating without a permanent workplace
“In 2026, I am building my own software company, all by my own, and still remote. No plans of taking a permanent office,” he wrote

Beyond work, Sinha said the flexibility of working from home has allowed him to appreciate everyday moments that he previously overlooked
Sharing a photograph of his workspace, he wrote, “This has allowed me to finally enjoy the beautiful lawn we have in our backyard.”
Reflecting on the decision, he added, “Every time I come, sit, and work from here, I just look back and thank myself to dare to go fully remote 8 years ago.”
Looking back on his journey, Sinha said remote work had provided opportunities he never expected while growing up in a middle-class household
“Going remote gave me the time, freedom, and also the kind of money, that a 21-year old Sankalp coming from a modest middle-class family could have never imagined,” he wrote
The post attracted a range of responses from social media users, with many praising the flexibility associated with remote work, while others highlighted some of its practical limitations
One user commented, “Sounds good, but I found its difficult to explore the places while also working. You mostly get only weekends, or maybe just a couple of hours on other days.”
Another wrote, “The quality of life improves significantly. Much better time management. Organised life.”
A third user simply described the post as “Inspiring.”
Others raised practical questions about working remotely from different countries
One user asked, “Don’t companies make a fuss about working from international locations due to tax considerations?”
Another questioned internet reliability by writing, “Mobile hotspot is good for productive work?”
A further comment read, “People working remotely are blessed truly.”
