N.D. (Valley News Live) – A Grand Forks woman is 30 pounds into a 100-pound weight loss goal, and she credits a specialized program at Sanford Sports for her progress
Raquel Allison, 26, said the motivation behind her journey is both personal and family-driven
“I want to feel good about my body and my sister just had her baby,” Allison said
“It was last year but her name is Isla, Isla Gwen Johnson and she’s my first niece. What helped me do this is it’s actually for me too, but actually for my niece as well.”
Allison’s Strength and Conditioning Coach at Sanford Sports, Anda Kuzmina, said the program is designed to adapt to each person’s abilities
“I don’t think there’s necessarily a big difference in terms of how you work with different people,” Kuzmina said
“I think it’s finding out what works for her and really targeting that. I think it’s been working for her, and for us.”
Allison’s routine includes walking on the treadmill, weight lifting, and sleds. She said the medicine ball is her favorite part of the workout — and the sled is not
“I like doing the ball. The ball’s my favorite,” Allison said
“I think Anda’s heard me say this before, the sled.”
Kuzmina said Allison’s attitude has played a significant role in her results
“One thing I want to shoutout is her mindset, is her positive outlook,” Kuzmina said
“I don’t think I’ve ever met somebody that is so positive minded. Everything that she does and says, she doesn’t need much motivation. She can push herself.”
Allison works out several times a week for about an hour. She said she hopes to reach her 100-pound goal in the months to come
She also had a message for others on a similar path
“For everybody that is struggling to lose weight, be confident about yourself,” Allison said
“Say ‘No’ if this food is bad for you, say ‘No food, not going to happen.’”
