Harbro Acquires Cargill’s Dalton Feed Business

Scotland-basedHarbro has acquired Cargill Animal Nutrition & Health’s business in Dalton, North Yorkshire, which includes a feed manufacturing plant and associated operations, according to a company announcement on Aug. 19. The acquisition is part of Harbro’s growth strategy, extending its reach, broadening its product offering, strengthening its supply chain, and adding expertise across species, manufacturing, innovation, and animal performance

The Dalton business produces pellets, concentrates, premixes, minerals, specialties, and supplements. Harbro said it will continue to invest in the site and its people to maintain high standards of quality, safety, regulatory compliance, and nutritional leadership. The deal is centered on nutrition, innovation, and technology, combining international insight and technical expertise from both companies to develop a leading proposition for customers and the wider livestock industry

Harbro noted that Cargill’s Dalton business will operate as a separate company while the teams work together on integrating systems and processes, expected to be completed by early 2027. Chris Baxter, chief executive officer of Harbro Ltd., said the Dalton team’s capability and standards make it an excellent fit, allowing Harbro to expand its offering, strengthen customer relationships, and deliver greater value across the UK market. Helene Ziv-Douki, senior vice president of Cargill Animal Nutrition & Health EMEAI & Global Salmon, said the timing was right to transition the business to Harbro, enabling both organizations to focus on their customers.

Privately owned Harbro trades throughout the UK and has a growing export market. With a manufacturing capacity of 280,000 tonnes from sites in Scotland and England, the company produces livestock feeds for beef, sheep, dairy, pig, and poultry
