PEORIA (25News Now) – Healthcare in South Peoria will soon be more accessible
A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Friday for a new Solvera Health clinic at the Southside Community Center
The clinic is a product of the center’s efforts to target gaps in areas of health and well-being in the community
“This particular gap that we are meeting, besides the parent support and education and youth leadership development, this particular gap has been super important to us,” said Rev. Irene Lewis-Wimbley, director and founder of the Southside Community Center
Southside Community Center describes its partnership with Solvera Health as not just a collaboration but a cooperation, with the goal of providing all kinds of healthcare at a convenient and accessible location for everyone needing it
“Those barriers are completely annihilated by this collaboration-cooperation,” Lewis-Wimbley said
The opening of the clinic was described by leaders as more than just another clinic, but a place where quality healthcare needs to be and where the public can trust it
Although based in the southside, care is not limited to those only on the south side. There are opportunities for care for everyone who needs it
U.S. Rep. Eric Sorensen (D-Moline), who represents a large part of Central Illinois, spoke about the impact of the clinic’s location
“We’re going to solve this problem because if you’re driving all the way across town, that’s not a solution. It’s not a solution for people who are working so hard that they have to take time off of work. We can make sure that we’re connecting people to good outcomes,” Sorensen said
Southside Community Center is located at 1618 South Laramie Street, and the clinic will be open to the public next week
It will be open the last Tuesdays and Fridays of every month to start, with a goal of providing walk-in care weekly
