MARQUETTE COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) — Local, state and federal law enforcement and National Guard units began training Monday in Marquette to improve communication and response efforts
The Iron Wave joint training exercise begins in Marquette and will end in Sault Ste. Marie Thursday
Officials said the main goals are to increase communication between multiple agencies during maritime emergencies and hazardous material responses
“Just know that this is a pre-planned exercise,” said Ben Eckola, of the Michigan State Police. “There is no danger to the community. But you can expect to see probably some increase in personnel, law enforcement, military personnel, specialized vehicles and at times helicopters in the Sault Ste. Marie area.”
Eckola said training exercises are done regularly
On Wednesday, special vehicles will be traveling to Sault Ste. Marie. Eckola said this could slow down travel plans
