Books for sale
Friends of the Redwood Libraries will hold a special fiction book sale Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Eureka Library 1313 Third St., Eureka
This event will include the full inventory of mysteries, novels and classics. All books are priced at 50 cents. Payment may be made by cash or credit card; small bills are appreciated. All proceeds benefit the Humboldt County Library System
Tour the marsh
The Redwood Region Audubon Society will present a free guided field trip at the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary on Saturday from 8:30 to 11 a.m
Bring binoculars and meet trip leader Dan Greaney at the end of South I Street (Klopp Lake) in Arcata to enjoy incredible views of Humboldt Bay, easy-to-walk trails and a great diversity of birdlife
Marsh tour
Friends of the Arcata Marsh will sponsor a free tour of the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary on Saturday
Meet leader Ren Bunce at 2 p.m. in the lobby of the Arcata Marsh Interpretive Center on South G Street for a 90-minute walk that takes place rain or shine
During this walk, attendees will learn about the history of the marsh and how it functions as part of the city’s wastewater treatment system. There will also be a chance to look at some of the 300-plus bird species that pass through Arcata Marsh and some of the plants currently gracing the area. For more information, call 707-826-2359
Dance party
A dance featuring live music and “a great floor” takes place Mondays from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the Moose Lodge, 4328 Campton Road, Eureka. Admission is $9
Play bingo
Bingo is played every Tuesday at the Moose Lodge, 4328 Campton Road, Eureka
The public is welcome and the snack bar is open
Doors open at 5 p.m. Early bird games begin at 6 p.m. Regular games start at 6:30 p.m. All proceeds go back into the community
Life Plan fundraiser
“Raise the Roof,” a fundraiser for Life Plan Humboldt, will take place Sept. 10 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Fieldbrook Winery
The SoHum Girls will provide entertainment for this year’s event, which supports the construction of a sidewalk and bike trail along Hiller Road, a benefit for the whole community
Life Plan Humboldt has begun accepting reservation deposits from people who choose their apartment or cottage. Construction will start early 2027 and residents can move in beginning in early 2029

ERFSA meeting
Humboldt ERFSA, the Emeritus and Retired Faculty and Staff Association, will welcome Ryan Aylward, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration warning coordination meteorologist on Sept. 10 from noon to 1 p.m. at the Baywood Golf and Country Club, 3600 Buttermilk Lane, Arcata
Aylward will lead a discussion titled “El Niño/ what it is and isn’t, and how El Niño and the Southern Oscillation impact our local weather and climate.”

Hammer-In
A “Hammer-In” will be held Sept. 11 and 12 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. at the Willow Creek-China Flat Bigfoot Museum
