Lovelace’s Westside Hospital, which serves Rio Rancho, announced recently that it was named the only Blue Distinction Center+ in New Mexico for bariatric surgery from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico
“The designation gives patients considering bariatric surgery added confidence that they can access nationally recognized care close to home,” a release reads
It states it recognizes the hospital’s ability to deliver safer, more effective and more cost-efficient weight-loss surgery compared to peer providers
“We are proud to be recognized as the only Blue Distinction Center+ for bariatric surgery in New Mexico,” said Benedict Hui, MD, Lovelace Medical Group board-certified surgeon specializing in bariatric and robotic surgery
The program considers surgery, patient education, inpatient care and follow-up as well as nutritional support once the patient is through the process
“Bariatric surgery is more than a procedure. It requires education, preparation, surgical expertise and long-term support,” Hui added
He stated the team is committed to helping patients feel prepared for surgery and supported throughout their weight-management journey
Tracie Stratton, CEO of Lovelace Hospital, said the recognition brings more confidence to patients in need of that care close to home
“Dr. Hui and his team have built a program focused on clinical excellence, patient support and better long-term outcomes for the people we serve.”
