Diagnostic radiologist Max Mehta of Texas is encouraging individuals to adopt a simple personal standard of keeping accurate health information and staying proactive about preventive care.

Austin, TX, USA – August 22, 2026 – Good health decisions often begin long before someone enters a hospital. Diagnostic radiologist Max Mehta is encouraging individuals to adopt a simple personal standard: know your health history, stay current with recommended screenings, and keep accurate medical information readily available

Mehta believes this habit can improve communication with healthcare providers and help patients become more active participants in their care

“Small habits can make a meaningful difference over time,” said Mehta. “Being informed about your own health is one of the simplest ways to support better medical decisions.”

The personal standard is built around consistency rather than perfection. It encourages people to understand their medical history, maintain an updated medication list, ask questions during appointments, and follow recommended screening schedules appropriate for their age and health needs

“Healthcare works best when patients and providers work together,” Mehta said. “Good information helps everyone make better decisions.”

Ignoring basic health habits can have serious consequences. Research continues to show the importance of staying engaged in preventive care:

    • Nearly 6 in 10 U.S. adults live with at least one chronic disease, many of which benefit from early detection and ongoing management. (CDC)

    • One in four adults has multiple chronic conditions, increasing the complexity of medical care. (CDC)

    • Studies estimate that diagnostic errors affect millions of Americans each year, highlighting the importance of complete and accurate patient information during evaluation. (National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine)

    • Preventive health screenings have been shown to identify many serious conditions earlier, when treatment options are often more effective. (U.S. Preventive Services Task Force)

Mehta emphasizes that while physicians provide medical expertise, patients also play an important role by staying informed and organized

“Every appointment is more productive when patients arrive prepared,” he said. “Simple preparation helps create better conversations.”

30-Day Implementation PlanWeek 1: Know Your Information

    • Write down your current medications

    • Record allergies

    • List previous surgeries or major medical conditions

    • Save emergency contacts in your phone

Week 2: Review Your Preventive Care

    • Check whether routine screenings are due

    • Schedule recommended wellness visits if needed

    • Review vaccination records

    • Create a reminder calendar for future appointments

Week 3: Build Better Healthcare Habits

    • Prepare questions before every medical visit

    • Bring your medication list to appointments

    • Keep copies of important test results in one secure location

    • Learn your family’s medical history where appropriate

    • Review your health information monthly

    • Update medication changes

    • Replace outdated emergency contacts

    • Continue asking questions and staying engaged in your care

☐ I understand my treatment plan before leaving a medical visit

☐ I update my health information whenever it changes

☐ I review this checklist at least once every month

“Learning is an ongoing part of healthcare,” Mehta said. “The more informed people are, the more confident they can be when making decisions alongside their medical team.”

Mehta hopes the checklist encourages individuals to develop habits that are easy to maintain and valuable over time
