The Monroe County Medical Society has recognized Ghinwa Dumyati, MD, and Barb Glassman with its 2026 Edward Mott Moore Physician and Layperson Awards.
The annual awards recognize individuals whose dedication to the community goes above and beyond the usual call of duty.
Dumyati, an infectious diseases physician and professor of medicine at the University of Rochester Medical Center, received the 2026 Edward Mott Moore Physician Award. Glassman, a longtime business leader, entrepreneur and workforce development advocate, received the Layperson Award.
Dumyati directs the Communicable Diseases Surveillance and Prevention Program at URMC’s Center for Community Health & Prevention. She has practiced medicine in Rochester since 1995 and joined Strong Memorial Hospital in 2007.
Since 2008, Dumyati has led infectious disease surveillance for the Rochester region of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Emerging Infections Program. Data generated through that work contribute to national public health policy while also helping local health care providers respond to emerging infectious disease threats.
Her impact also can be measured in improvements to patient safety across the region.
Dumyati led hospital collaboratives that reduced central line-associated bloodstream infections by 50% and Clostridioides difficile infections by 30%. The C. difficile initiative received the Greater Rochester Quality Council’s Performance Excellence Platinum Award.
For more than a decade, she also has led a regional collaborative helping nursing homes establish antibiotic stewardship programs. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dumyati worked with facilities to manage outbreaks and provided guidance on treatment and vaccines. Her pandemic response earned her a University of Rochester Medical Center Alumni Service Award.
Beyond her clinical and public health work, Dumyati has spent her career teaching and mentoring infectious disease fellows, residents and public health students at the University of Rochester.
Dumyati trained at the American University of Beirut before completing her residency and fellowship at the University of Rochester.
Glassman has built a career around challenging conventional approaches to business, workforce development and community engagement.
She began her career as the first female graduate of the Electrical Engineering Technology program at SUNY Alfred. She went on to move from technical positions into leadership roles spanning adult education, sales, marketing, e-commerce and fulfillment.
Glassman also helped build her family’s business ventures, including G-FORCE Collaborations, a marketing communications firm, and Glassnotes, a music- and art-themed note card company. In 2005, she became president and CEO of G-FORCE, where she established a talent development division focused on creating more human-centered workplaces.
Today, Glassman works in small business and workforce readiness consulting and is an ICF-credentialed executive and team coach.
Her community involvement includes serving as a key collaborator and facilitator of the Greater Rochester Multi-County ACT Work Ready Community Coalition, which focuses on strengthening workforce readiness.
Glassman also has played a role in bringing patients and clinicians together to address challenges facing the region’s health care system.
Since 2020, she has been instrumental in developing the Patient Clinician Alliance, an initiative focused on elevating the voices of patients and clinicians to positively influence the Greater Rochester health care ecosystem.
She also co-founded DisruptHR Rochester in 2019 and continues to serve on the DisruptHR ROC Advisory Committee and as a speaker coach.
