A new family run fitness gym in Whitefish prides itself on being an accessible facility with an authentic training experience.

4 Seasons Fitness is owned and operated by Dave Macaluso, a certified trainer with over 20 years of experience in gym coaching and management.

With help from his wife Nicole, a physical therapist at Physio Whitefish, Macaluso renovated a building a mile south of U.S. 93 and Montana 40 and opened earlier this summer.

“Our biggest goal is to make people feel comfortable and welcome,” Macaluso said. “So people walk in and go, this is nice. The lighting, the smell, the equipment, everything is inviting and relaxing.”

A Billings native, Macaluso was a track athlete at the University of Montana before beginning his early career as a builder.

He was taking a boot camp at a large gym near Bellevue, Washington, when one of the instructors approached him and said, “You have what it takes.”

So Macaluso applied for a manager’s position at the large gym, where he would go on to work for 13 years. He left the position to open his own gym just south of downtown Seattle.

“It was fantastic,” Macaluso said. “Everything was flowing. We had a great response, a great facility, and then COVID hit and shut the doors for 10 months.”

Macaluso began working with clients on Zoom. To this day, he continues to offer virtual training to long-term clients across the country.

The Macalusos eyed Kalispell for a better place to raise their two daughters. They sold the gym, sold their house and moved to the Flathead Valley about five years ago.

Ever since the move, Macaluso has been searching for the right space to reignite his gym business, hoping to create a space that contrasts large, sometimes intimidating gyms, a place where he can give personalized training in person.

The chance finally came last year with the purchase of a 6,700 square foot facility south of Whitefish. The building was formerly Power Plant MT, a marijuana grow house and dispensary.

After renovations, the gym is equipped with strength, cardio and functional training equipment and a turf. The locker rooms boast private stalls and showers, adding a touch of comfort for some users.

Macaluso also has a private studio where he’ll offer one-on-one training, building programs from scratch for each individual. He will continue to offer virtual or hybrid training to serve clients across the valley.

Macaluso said he enjoys studying movement and helping people to become more efficient and relieve pain.

“It’s like a puzzle to me,” he said. “I like when somebody learns something and it makes them feel better. Like, ‘Oh, I got it now, now I know how to activate my glute medius, now my knees don’t hurt,’ you know?”

    4 Seasons Fitness is located at 5600 U.S. 93. The unmanned building is open 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. 365 days a year.

Pricing is $480 annually, $45 monthly and $40 for veterans and couples. Visitors can obtain day passes at $10 and weekly passes at $40.
