FISU welcomed a delegation from Peking University to its headquarters in Lausanne during the European College of Sport Science (ECSS) 2026 Congress, currently taking place on the University of Lausanne (UNIL) and EPFL campuses

The Peking University delegation included Professor He Zhonghui (middle), Chief Expert of Peking University’s Healthy Campus Programme and one of the international experts who contributed to the validation of the FISU Healthy Campus Standard; Dr Zhang Zhanjia, Assistant Professor at Peking University and FISU Healthy Campus Auditor; and Ms Wang Juan, a graduate student at Peking University

The delegation was welcomed by Fernando Parente, FISU Deputy Secretary General, together with Bertrand Fincoeur, FISU Senior Education Manager, Ivo Carvalhosa, FISU Healthy Campus Manager, and Marianela O’Mahony, FISU Director of Communications

227 registered universities across 50 countries

The meeting provided an excellent opportunity to review the continued development of the FISU Healthy Campus Programme, which has now reached 227 registered universities across 50 countries, confirming its position as the world’s leading international certification programme dedicated to health, wellbeing and sustainability in higher education

Discussions focused on the next phase of the Healthy Campus Programme and on new initiatives being developed by Peking University, particularly in the field of mental health, where the university is integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies to provide innovative support services for students and promote healthier learning environments

The delegation also presented the university’s ambition to further expand these initiatives internationally and explore new opportunities for cooperation with FISU and its global university network

    Strengthening educational and research dimensions

The discussions also explored opportunities for collaboration beyond the Healthy Campus Programme. Peking University expressed its interest in hosting a future edition of the FISU World Forum. The university also indicated its willingness to support the organisation of an international scientific conference in cooperation with FISU, further strengthening the educational and research dimension of the international university sports movement

“Peking University, a Healthy Campus Platinum Certified institution, has played a pioneering role in the Programme since its inception and remains one of the six pilot universities that helped shape the initiative during its development phase. We are proud of its continued involvement. Its academic expertise and commitment to innovation have made it a key partner in advancing FISU’s vision of fostering healthier, more active and more inclusive university communities worldwide,” said Fernando Parente (in white), FISU Deputy Secretary General.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to continue strengthening cooperation in the fields of student wellbeing, mental health, education, research and innovation, reinforcing the role of universities as drivers of positive social change through sport and healthy lifestyles
