A health alerthas been issued for a salad that might be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes
A notice fromthe United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) states that the contamination was discovered in eight-ounce plastic packages of Mary’s Harvest Fresh Foods, Inc., Curry Chicken Salad during routine testing
“Listeria monocytogenes (L. monocytogenes) is a type of disease-causing bacteria that can be found in many places, including soil, water, sewage, rotting vegetation, and animals,” the USDA explains. “L. monocytogenes can thrive in unsanitary food production conditions, leading to contamination of the food
“When people eat food contaminated with L. monocytogenes, they may develop a disease called listeriosis.”
Symptoms of listeriosis included fever, muscle aches and vomiting. While most healthy people can overcome the disease, it might be life-threatening to the elderly, newborns, and people with weakened immune systems
These products bear a “use by” date of “07/30/2026” as well as the establishment number “P-39928.” The products were shipped to retailers in Oregon and Washington
Should you have these products in your fridge freezer to preserve them pass the “use by” date — or in general — it is recommended you dispose of them immediately, or return them to their place of purchase
