The Wellbeing Zone at Clacton Leisure Centre will temporarily close later this month as part of a multi-million-pound government funded programme of improvements designed to modernise the centre, improve sustainability and enhance facilities for customers
The facility will be closed from Monday, 24 August, to Sunday, 6 September, reopening on Monday, 7 September
The temporary closure is needed so contractors can safely access and replace cold-water storage tanks, hot water equipment and drainage systems as part of the centre’s wider changing room refurbishment project
The works form part of the ongoing investment in upgraded changing facilities at Clacton Leisure Centre, with the upstairs changing rooms currently on track to reopen in October 2026. The improvements will help create more modern, reliable and efficient facilities for residents and visitors to enjoy for years to come

Councillor Mick Barry, Tendring District Council’s Cabinet Member for Leisure and Public Realm, said: “We know the Wellbeing Zone is popular with members, and we appreciate their patience while this short closure takes place
“This is an important stage in the major investment being made at Clacton Leisure Centre. The work will help provide modern, high-quality facilities that are more efficient, reliable and fit for the future
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and look forward to welcoming people back to the Wellbeing Zone when it reopens on Monday, 7 September.”
All other facilities at Clacton Leisure Centre will remain open as usual during this period
