A group of US Democratic senators has demanded answers from the Navy over deteriorating conditions aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln, as American sailors face mounting psychological stress after more than 250 days at sea
Senator Richard Blumenthal has called on the Navy to explain why the aircraft carrier has remained deployed for more than 250 days without coming ashore, while Senator Ruben Gallego has called for a bipartisan Senate oversight visit to assess conditions aboard the vessel
The calls come amid reports of an intensifying mental health crisis among the carrier’s sailors, including multiple suicide attempts involving personnel who tried to jump overboard
