The fitness court is intended to be welcoming to anyone 14 and older. Wichita Park and Recreation director Reggie Davidson said there is a built-in way for people to receive help if they don’t know how to use a piece of equipment

“The unique thing about it is it has a QR code that’s there that you can actually have kinda your own personal trainer in your pocket, where you can follow along and get workouts and use the space here safely,” Davidson said

This is one of two fitness courts in Wichita. The other one opened in 2024 and is at Pat Garcia Veterans Memorial Park. Davidson said the usage at the other court is higher than the national average

“It’s been utilized by the community, and they’re excited about having these amenities close to their community and neighborhoods,” he said

Davidson said this is part of a mission to offer accessible ways for people to get outside and exercise

“It’s very important to be able to break down barriers for people to have access to space where they can remain active and involved right here in their community,” he said

The city hopes to add fitness areas to more parks in the future
