Losing weight can be difficult if you have a desk job. Not only will you have to deal with eating too fast or skipping meals but you will also not get much activity during your day. Here is a diet plan that can help you lose weight while having a desk job.

Why Desk Work Changes Your Hunger Patterns

When you sit all day you will not only burn less calories but you will start to feel hungrier. More likely tired and hungry at that. If you don't prepare for this you could end up eating to much.

If you have a desk job you may find yourself eating just because there is food. Instead of feeling hungry you are probably just bored. This will hinder your ability to lose weight on a sedentary lifestyle.

By following a diet plan you can learn to stay fuller for longer. Allowing your body to not crave food as much during your work day.

What Makes a Diet Plan for Desk Workers Effective?

Your diet plan should allow you to meal prep and have days where you just repeat what you have. Make sure there is plenty of protein fiber and fat to help keep cravings down but not too many calories. You don't want to feel sluggish and not be able to focus.

Make sure it's convenient as well. Whether that be your lunch is later in the day or you only have short breaks your foods need to be portable and satiating. Have them measured out before your day starts.

    • Eat plenty of protein with each meal.
    • Consume carbohydrates that have high fiber content.
    • Have some form of vegetable or fruit with most of your meals.
    • Measure out your snacks to avoid overeating.
    • Stay hydrated by drinking water. Sometimes you may feel hungry when your thirsty.
    • Build your diet around your work schedule.

By following these steps you can maintain consistency with your meal plan. Having a consistent meal plan is key to losing weight when your working at a desk.

Building Lunches That Keep You Full

You want your lunch to help you get through the rest of your day. Including proteins fruits and good carbohydrates will allow you to do just that. You wont feel sluggish and can focus on what your doing.

Your lunch should keep you full until dinner. Something like a salad wont cut it you need something that will fill you up. A bowl of chicken and beans and some grain and veggies will help you get through those long hours of sitting down.

Another benefit to packing lunch is you know what your eating. There wont be any excess calories hiding in salad dressing or a massive take out portion. Also all those sodas you drink can hinder your goal as well.

How Can You Control Snacking at Your Desk?

If you find yourself constantly snacking at work it can be detrimental. Always have healthy snacks around that you enjoy. Most people snack because its easy access to their desk. By removing unhealthy snacks from your area you are less likely to over consume them.

Have snacks available when its snack time. If that's all that you have around your less likely to snack all day long.

    • Have snacks hidden away from your view when its not snack time.
    • Have them in small portions so you dont over eat.
    • Have a carb with your snack to help you feel full.
    • If you tend to snack during certain times set times to snack.
    • Keep sweets away from your work space.
    • Find snacks that will allow you to eat slower.

Having snacks that you can enjoy will allow you to control your hunger throughout the day. This can help you break bad habits at your job.

    Smart Breakfasts for Busy Mornings

Your breakfast will determine how you will want to eat throughout the day. Having too little or too much sugar on your stomach can lead you to feel hungry very quickly and overeat at lunch or snack on unhealthy foods in the middle of the morning.

Make sure your breakfast consists of protein and fiber. Protein will suppress hunger and fiber will help digest your food. This can be greek yogurt with fruits or eggs and toast or even oatmeal. All of these are great breakfast options to have before your long drive or meetings.

If you dont have time to make breakfast you can always make something the night before. Having healthy snacks ready for the next day can benefit your journey towards weight loss while being sedentary.

    Managing Portions Without Feeling Deprived

When controlling your portions you don't want to starve yourself but have the proper amount of calories that you need. Having small meals will help with your goal if you sit most of the day.

Some people may find that they eat less by using smaller plates. However if you struggle with this try measuring out calories. Such as oil cheese nuts and other condiments. They can pack on calories easily.

Another tip is to eat slower. By taking your time you can control your portions. Once you are full stop eating and don't try to force yourself to eat more.

Why Protein Matters More Than You Think

Having protein on your diet can be very beneficial if your job consists of sitting at a desk all day. Not only does protein help you feel full but it will allow you to maintain lean muscle mass when losing weight. So having it will help you stay less hungry while trying to lose weight.

Another reason why you want protein in your diet is that it will help keep your blood sugar stable. This allows you to have better energy during those long days at the office. Less hunger pangs means you can make better decisions during the later hours of the day.

    • Have protein at breakfast with eggs or cottage cheese.
    • Have protein at lunch such as chicken, fish, tofu, beans, etc.
    • Eat protein at snack times or use greek yogurt in place of dessert.
    • Snack on high protein foods when hungry such as jerky or edamame.
    • Have protein spread throughout the day and don't save it all for dinner.
    • Make sure to eat protein each time you sit down to eat.

Once you learn how to eat protein you will notice it's easier to lose weight. It'll help keep you fuller longer which comes in handy when you're sitting at a desk for 10 hours.

What Office Habits Help Burn More Energy?

There's no reason why you can't move around at work to help burn calories. All of these will add up over the course of your day and allow you to stay active throughout the day.

By standing when talking on the phone you can allow your body to stay loose. Walking after lunch is a great way to digest food and get those steps in without having to go to the gym. These simple things will allow you to burn calories while at work.

Drinking water can also help you stand up and move around. You don't have to be constantly working out while you're at work but try to minimize your time sitting.

Dinner Strategies That Prevent Late Night Overeating

Your dinner can help you reach your goal or it can take away from what you did earlier in the day. Many people when they know they sat all day want to eat as much as they want.

Try to have your dinner planned out. By having a meal that consists of vegetables protein and some form of starch you can avoid hunger throughout the night. If you know that you tend to snack after dinner find a way to end your night with tea or fruit .

By having an end of the night plan you can prevent yourself from snacking at night.
