A MIDLANDS design studio has helped transform a community wellbeing hub in Stourbridge with a series of bespoke furniture installations

Dual Works, based in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter, worked with Riverside House to upgrade the Roundhouse building as part of wider improvements to the site, which supports people with mental health challenges and learning disabilities

The redesigned space is now able to host workshops, craft sessions and community events, with flexible furniture that combines seating, storage and display

Key features include custom-built window pods, turning former unused areas into practical seating and exhibition spaces, along with curved benches and a central round table designed to bring people together

Zoe Robertson, co-founder of Dual Works, said: “One of the most important observations during the early site visits was the atmosphere already present within the Roundhouse

“There was a quietness to the space and a strong connection to nature

“The design needed to preserve that feeling while improving functionality and flexibility for everyday use

“Rather than imposing a dramatic visual statement, we’ve tried to positively shape the experience of the community space—supporting the people who use it while creating opportunities for creativity and connection.”

Riverside House aims to transform lives by transforming places, offering people with mental health challenges and learning disabilities the opportunity to build confidence, learn new skills, and find purpose through outdoor and practical activities

Claire Price from Riverside House said: “This project has transformed the Roundhouse into a space that truly reflects who we are

“We wanted an interior that was beautiful, robust and flexible enough to support the many different ways people use the building

“Dual Works has created a series of thoughtful and practical insertions that make the space work harder while feeling calm, welcoming and deeply connected to its surroundings.”

The project is open for weekend events, and Riverside House welcomes visitors and new volunteers
