ICYMI: Governor Spanberger Takes Action to Protect Virginians from Federal Healthcare & Food Cuts
RICHMOND, VA— With President Trump driving up costs and jeopardizing healthcare for families across the Commonwealth, Governor Abigail Spanberger continues to focus on protecting Virginians’ access to healthcare coverage
On Tuesday, Governor Spanberger brought together key healthcare partners from across Virginia to discuss the impacts of the reckless cuts imposed by President Donald Trump’s so-called One Big Beautiful Bill — including threatening healthcare access for more than 550,000 Virginians receiving coverage through Medicaid. In response to these cuts, Governor Spanberger has directed agencies across state government to assess the effects on the Commonwealth’s healthcare system and work to connect Virginians with additional coverage options.
Additionally, Virginia’s state budget contains $1 billion in funding to contend with the worst impacts of the law — including $350 million for the Medicaid Reserve Fund to protect healthcare coverage for the hundreds of thousands of Virginians who rely on the program. Governor Spanberger and the General Assembly have also set aside $150 million to help 200,000 Virginians who are at risk of losing their coverage through the Marketplace created by the Affordable Care Act
