Every few years, a diet comes along that makes even devoted health nuts raise an eyebrow, and the ancestral eating movement built one of the more extreme versions yet. One internet personality turned it into a full lifestyle brand, built almost entirely around foods most people would never willingly put on a plate
The story ended up going somewhere nobody quite expected. Here is what the diet actually involves, and how it eventually fell apart
A Pound of Raw Liver, Every Single Day
The man behind it, known online as Liver King, built his entire persona around eating raw organ meat, liver especially. His routine reportedly includes bone marrow, beef tongue, raw eggs and even raw animal testicles, all treated as normal daily meals rather than rare novelty

He has said beginners should ease in with a few ounces a couple of times a week rather than jumping straight to his own daily pound of raw liver. Supplements made from the same ingredients, sold through his own brand, turned the diet into a business worth tens of millions of dollars a year
The Theory Behind Eating Like a Predator
The reasoning is built around the idea that modern comfort has made people physically and mentally soft, and that the fix is living closer to how early humans supposedly lived. Nine so called ancestral tenets guide the lifestyle, covering everything from cold exposure to sleep to intense daily movement, with eating raw organs sitting at the center of it all
The pitch found a massive audience fast, with millions of followers across social media within about a year of the persona launching. Fans described it as a return to something more primal and natural than the average gym routine
Doctors Had a Very Different Take
Nutrition experts were far less convinced. A professor at New York University warned that eating that much raw liver daily could push vitamin A to toxic levels, on top of the ordinary risk of bacteria and salmonella that comes with eating meat raw

Critics also pointed out that ancient diets almost certainly varied far more than a single organ eaten in bulk every day. The gap between an actual ancestral diet and a modern raw liver habit turned out to be a lot wider than the branding suggested
An Ending the Branding Never Predicted
The whole persona took a hit when it came out that thousands of dollars a month were reportedly being spent on steroids, despite claims that the physique came from diet and lifestyle alone. Lawsuits from former customers followed not long after
Years later, in a 2025 documentary, the same man publicly reversed course, admitting the diet had left him effectively malnourished and that he had gotten the whole philosophy wrong. It was a strange final chapter for a lifestyle that once had millions of people rethinking their breakfast
Most extreme diets fade quietly once the novelty wears off, but this one got an unusually public unraveling. It is a reminder that a compelling story and a dramatic physique are not the same thing as actual evidence
