City attorney Zach Klein reveals healthcare win against Trump administration

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) —A federal judge has decided to block a set of 2026 health care rules from the Trump-Vance administration created to undermine the Affordable Care Act

Columbus City Attorney Zach Klein says the proposed rules by the Trump administration would have raised costs and made it harder for working people and families to get and keep affordable health insurance

Klein issued a statement Monday after the U.S. District Court of Maryland struck down the rules

“This decision is a major win for millions of Americans, including thousands of Ohioans who deserve quality, affordable healthcare. We cannot stand by and let the Trump-Vance administration chip away at healthcare access by making plans more expensive and limiting coverage,” Klein said in a release. “We will continue to fight to protect affordable healthcare coverage for all Americans whenever it’s threatened.”

Klein has repeatedly fought against the president’s efforts that would essentially weaken health care access for millions of Americans

The rule intended to strip coverage from millions of Americans and raised out-of-pocket costs for millions more who obtain coverage through the Affordable Care Act’s marketplace

The rule was set to take effect today if the parties had not filed suit making this a major victory for Columbus and other cities that went up against the presidential administration

The decision means federal protections for affordable health care remain intact
