Synopsis
Kuwar Kapur shed sixty-two kilograms over two years through a phased walking routine. He advises beginners to start with manageable steps, avoiding burnout and quitting early. Kapur gradually increased his daily step count as his fitness levels improved over time. He emphasizes that strength training is crucial for maintaining weight loss results. This approach prioritizes persistence and gradual progression over aggressive initial efforts

A man who dropped a staggering 62 kg over two years has revealed the walking routine behind his transformation, and it deliberately skips the internet’s favourite fitness rule of hitting 10,000 steps a day from day one. Kuwar Kapur shared the journey on Instagram, posting a before-and-after video that has caught the attention of fitness fans online. His message is simple: forget the shortcuts, and forget perfection too.Kapur went from 142 kg to 80 kg, and according to him, the real secret was never a strict plan or a magic number. It was persistence. He built his cardio in stages, letting his body catch up before pushing further, and he wants beginners to know that jumping straight into an aggressive step count is a rookie mistake that burns people out fast.Sharing the video, he wrote, “Most people jump straight to 10K steps then wonder why they are exhausted and sore and quit by week 2.” That single line sums up his entire approach, cardio, done right, should build up slowly instead of starting at full throttle.
Here is how Kapur broke down his step-by-step cardio progression, phase by phase.
Beginner/Obese Phase
For anyone just starting out, especially those carrying a lot of extra weight, Kapur says the goal is not speed but survival, sticking with it long enough to matter. “Start with what feels manageable. Usually 3,000-5,000 steps/day. Even less is fine, as the goal is consistency without burnout,” he explained. No pressure, no big numbers, just showing up.
Overweight Phase
Once the body adjusts, Kapur suggests raising the bar slightly, around 8,000 steps a day, done in one heart-rate zone, twice a week. He recommends keeping the pace easy enough to hold a conversation while walking, rather than pushing to the edge of exhaustion. As the body adapts, he says, the cardio naturally gets easier.By the time someone reaches a moderate fitness level, Kapur says the body’s recovery and stamina have already improved a great deal compared to the earlier stages. Here, he recommends stepping up to 10,000–12,000 steps, spread across two heart-rate zones, twice a week.
Leaning Down Phase
This is the stage where fat loss really speeds up, according to Kapur. He advises walking 15,000 steps across two or three zones, twice a week. But there’s a catch, if strength training in the gym starts to suffer, he says the fix isn’t to eat less. It’s to dial back the cardio.
Shredded Phase
The final and toughest stage on Kapur’s list involves 20,000 steps, spread across two or three zones, twice a week. He calls it a high-output, high-reward phase, the payoff for everything built in the stages before it.Alongside this step-by-step cardio breakdown, Kapur had one more piece of advice for everyone, no matter which phase they’re in: lift weights at least three to four times a week. According to him, walking builds the engine, but strength training is what keeps the results standing.Add ![]()
