The work of a local artist will forever be preserved and remembered at Floyd County Medical Center (FCMC)
Throughout June and July, in the window well of the basement of the new FCMC clinic, Charles City artist Robin Macomber painted a mural of a young girl on an outdoor swing admiring a radiant sunset, surrounded by beautiful countryside reminiscent of rural Iowa. The artwork is visible from the Lilly Garden Wellness Area, an employee-designated wellbeing space created in honor of patient Lilly Garden
Lilly’s parents, Brady and Emily Garden of Charles City, donated funds to construct the wellbeing area after their experience at FCMC. On October 11, 2024, Lilly was born unresponsive and not breathing. FCMC’s birth center team immediately responded to stabilize Lilly while also comforting first-time parents Brady and Emily. Lilly was transported to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester and, today, she is thriving with no residual health issues
In September 2025, the Garden family surprised several members of the medical team who cared for Lilly with their donation to the future Lilly Garden Wellness Area. This past spring, hospital leadership contacted Macomber to share their vision of a mural inspired by Lilly’s story at FCMC. In fact, the redheaded girl depicted in the mural was inspired by Lilly
Macomber said the “project is especially significant as it coincides with the celebration of my 30th year of painting, is located in my home community, and represents the Garden family. It has been an honor.”
At FCMC’s ribbon-cutting ceremony of the new clinic on July 18th, the Garden’s were able to see the completed mural for the first time in person
