PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) —Providence Health Plan announced in May that it will stop offering most of its health insurance plans beginning in 2027. This month, however, it began mailing written notices to members insured through the individual marketplace or employer-sponsored plans

However, individuals insured through Providence’s Medicare Advantage program have not yet received written notices. A Providence spokesperson said that is because the company is still working to transition those members to another insurance provider, but no agreement has been finalized

“We continue to have discussions about our Medicare Advantage plan. When information is available, we will share it with members,” the medical group said in a written statement

The Oregon Health Authority (OHA) said it is working with Providence to transition Medicare Advantage members with “continuity of care top of mind.”

Some Medicare Advantage members said the lack of direct communication has increased their uncertainty and anxiety after learning about the changes through media reports in May

“It’s terrifying, frankly. I have many years of experience with these providers. They know a little bit about me and how life treats me and affects me. And starting from scratch is really scary,” said Colin McCormack, who has been with Providence for 15 years

“I am a Medicare Advantage patient on disability. I have diabetes and kidney disease. So I have a lot of doctors at Providence, and I’m just kind of wondering what comes next,” he said

Providence said there will be no changes to coverage until it ends at the close of 2026, adding that it will honor all contractual, regulatory and legal obligations during the transition

Providence also said it is evaluating options for its Medicaid program with Health Share of Oregon for 2027. Medicaid members will continue receiving coverage through Health Share of Oregon’s coordinated care organization, according to the announcement

“Our Promise to know, care for and ease the way of those we serve has guided Providence Health Plan’s work for more than 40 years,” the company said. “That commitment does not change. Our focus throughout this transition will be on continuing to serve members and partners with the same care and dedication they have always known from us.”

Providence said members can continue seeing their doctors, filling prescriptions and accessing health care as usual throughout 2026

Employers will provide additional information to employees about their 2027 coverage options, according to the company

The announcement also does not affect providers’ contracts or network relationships during 2026. Providence said claims processing, billing and prior authorizations will continue as usual, and it will maintain operations beyond 2026 to ensure claims are paid and contractual obligations are fulfilled

Broker and agent contracts also will remain in effect under their existing terms, with Providence promising to provide updates and re
