    NEWCASTLE, Okla. —

The Chickasaw Nation has broken ground on a state-of-the-art healthcare campus in Newcastle, Oklahoma, which aims to expand access to specialized care for First American families and patients across the Oklahoma City metro area

The facility is expected to employ more than 5,500 people and serve Chickasaw citizens, First American families, and patients across the Oklahoma City metro and beyond

Chickasaw Nation Gov. Chris Anoatubby shared his excitement about the project

“Super excited. You know, we’ve been waiting, anticipating for this day to turn on this project. It took many, many years of planning,” Anoatubby said

The campus will include outpatient and specialty care, residency programs, and what the Chickasaw Nation says will be the first Native American research center

“It’s going to take a while to build that workforce, and we’ve got willing and able partners who are right there alongside us to work with us to attain that goal,” Anoatubby said

Anoatubby emphasized the importance of accessibility in health care

“Part of the pillars of having good health is accessibility. It’s been a goal of ours at the Chickasaw Nation to have a clinic or a health care hub within a 30-minute drive,” he said

The new center will also serve as a referral hub for rural and tribal clinics, expanding access to specialized care

“That’s where we hope is better accessibility. We’re closer, more accessible, and that we provide our accessible, quality health care right here in Newcastle,” Anoatubby said

The campus will be constructed in three phases, with leaders estimating the first phase will take about three years to complete

The entire project is expected to take 11 to 12 years
