Have you ever wondered about the geography of college gymnastics? You’re not the only one! This is part of a monthly series, where we’ll answer all of your gymnastics geography questions. These maps will range from informative to analytical to light-hearted and fun
This month, we looked at top in-state athletes in 2026. We considered an athlete to be in-state if the hometown listed on the team roster is in the same state as their college team, regardless of where they grew up or competed before college. We used NQS to determine top athletes in 2026
Avery Neff of Utah was the top in-state athlete competing in the all-around in 2026, with an NQS of 39.670. Neff finished the season ranked third in the all-around by NQS. Michigan was home to two top in-state athletes: Sage Kellerman was the best in-state vaulter with an NQS of 9.935, and Nikki Smith, with an NQS of 9.95, was top in-state on floor exercise. On uneven bars, Florida’s Riley McCusker had the top NQS among in-state athletes, at 9.945. Ciena Alipio of UCLA was the top in-state beam worker, finishing with an NQS of 9.95.
In the map below, find the top in-state gymnasts by NQS on each event and in the all-around by clicking on or hovering over a state. States in gray have fewer in-state athletes, while states in darker pink have the most
