This month, we looked at top in-state athletes in 2026. We considered an athlete to be in-state if the hometown listed on the team roster is in the same state as their college team, regardless of where they grew up or competed before college. We used NQS to determine top athletes in 2026
Avery Neff of Utah was the top in-state athlete competing in the all-around in 2026, with an NQS of 39.670. Neff finished the season ranked third in the all-around by NQS. Michigan was home to two top in-state athletes: Sage Kellerman was the best in-state vaulter with an NQS of 9.935, and Nikki Smith, with an NQS of 9.95, was top in-state on floor exercise. On uneven bars, Florida’s Riley McCusker had the top NQS among in-state athletes, at 9.945. Ciena Alipio of UCLA was the top in-state beam worker, finishing with an NQS of 9.95.
