    2026 PAN PACIFIC CHAMPIONSHIPS

    • Irvine, California

The initial entry lists for the 2026 Pan Pacific Championships have been released with the competition less than one week away from kicking off in Irvine

Unlike the Olympics or World Championships, where countries are limited to two swimmers per event, nations can enter as many athletes as they’d like in each race at Pan Pacs, though only two per country can advance to the ‘A’ final

As a result, some swimmers are likely over entered, meaning they’re penciled in for more events than they’ll actually swim at Pan Pacs, but the release of the entries does give us a good idea of who’s swimming what, and which events some athletes have ruled out

It’s particularly noteworthy that Kaylee McKeown and Mollie O’Callaghan still appear on the entry lists despite both swimmers withdrawing from the meet

Among the notable entries, Canadian superstar Summer McIntosh has opted not to enter the women’s 800 freestyle on the final day of the competition, avoiding a conflict with the 200 IM

McIntosh is entered to race the women’s 200 free, 400 free, 200 fly, 200 IM and 400 IM, and if she were to race all five, her lone individual event double would come on Day 1, when the 200 free and 200 fly take place

Among the Americans, Regan Smith is notably not entered to swim the women’s 200 fly, which comes directly before the 100 back on Day 1. In addition to the three backstrokes, Smith is also entered in the 200 IM

Virginia training mates Kate Douglass, Alex Walsh and Claire Curzanare three of the swimmers who appear to be over-entered, with Walsh entered in eight events and Douglass and Curzan both in seven

Torri Huske also has six events on her potential schedule, while Gretchen Walsh has kept in simple and only entered her core four events: 50 free, 100 free, 50 fly and 100 fly

Katie Ledecky has strayed away from racing the 200 free individually at major international meets over the past few years, and that trend continues here the women’s GOAT has only entered the 400, 800 and 1500 free. She’ll go head-to-head with McIntosh in the 400, and then have a real challenger in Australian Lani Pallister in the two longer events

China is sending a relatively small but strong team, including 2024 world champion Tang Qianting, two-time individual World Championship medalist Yu Yiting, and World Junior Record holder Zhang Zhanshuo

On the men’s side, Shaine Casas has a relatively light schedule, with the 50 back, 50 fly, 100 fly and 200 IM in his lineup, allowing him to avoid any doubles. The same can be said for Carson Foster, who is only entered in the 200 fly, 200 IM and 400 IM, opting not to race any freestyle individually

Australian dynamo Sam Short has opted not to race the 200 free at Pan Pacs, instead focusing on the 400, 800 and 1500 free after sweeping those three events at the Commonwealth Games in July

One significant name absent from the entry lists is South African Pieter Coetze, who is coming off a dominant performance at the Commonwealth Games. Without Coetze, Americans Casas (50), Will Modglin (100) and Jack Aikins (200) take over as the top seeds in the men’s backstroke events

    NOTABLE ENTRIES
