Serena Williams’s coach has raised concerns about the health of Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner. With both tennis giants withdrawing from Cincinnati due to injuries, coach Rennae Stubbs now believes that the two may not be at their optimum best, even if they choose to play at the US Open, due to their lack of recent hard-court experience
During an episode of “The Rennae Stubbs Tennis Podcast,” Serena Williams’ coach, Rennae Stubbs, explained that Alcaraz’s wrist injury is a major issue and something that could completely make or break his game
“This is a major problem. Alcaraz’s wrist is such a concern for me. I had a wrist injury. It gives me very big anxiety about him going forward. We can just say Del Potro, and it’s not a good feeling. The wrist is the worst thing to have as a tennis player, clearly.”
The former Australian player believes that skipping Canada and Cincinnati has cost Sinner and Alcaraz valuable hard court experience that could have greatly aided the two in preparing well for the US Open
“If you can’t hit the ball, you can’t play. But this is a problem for Jannik Sinner, a knee issue that he said he, and listen, he pulled out of Canada, I would suspect, because he just wanted more time. But this is definitely concerning. Because Cincinnati, every player knows they need to play matches on hard court to get used to the balls and the conditions to be able to play best of five sets at the US Open.”
While Jannik Sinner’s knee injury was a recent setback, Carlos Alcaraz suffered a wrist injury in April at the Barcelona Open and has been sidelined from action since

Serena Williams’ Coach Backs Rafael Jodar as a Top Contender to Shake Up Sinner-Alcaraz Dominance
Serena Williams’ coach, Rennae Stubbs, has banked on the young Spaniard, Rafael Jodar, to shake up the Sinner-Alcaraz dominance in tennis
While Stubbs believes that Jodar has what it takes to pose a significant threat to the two elite players, the young Spaniard still needs a year or two to fully develop his game to make his presence felt
Rafael Jodar has already been doing that with a promising run in Montreal, where the young Spaniard has already beaten Arthur Fils in the quarterfinals 7-6, 6-3 in an hour and 42 minutes

With this, Jodar has booked his maiden Masters 1000 semi-final and will now go up against Brandon Nakashima on Thursday
