FRANKLIN COUNTY, N.Y. —
Health officials in Franklin County, New York, said rabies cases continue to be a factor this summer, with eight cases confirmed in the region
Franklin County Public Health said rabies has been found in raccoons, a bat, a gray fox and a skunk this season. Those cases have been confirmed in Moira, Fort Covington and Constable as well as on the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe Territory

St. Lawrence County has reported 11 cases of rabies as well, the health department said
With so many recent reports, officials reminded residents to ensure that their pets are up to date on their vaccinations. Residents are also being urged to stay away from wild animals and to never approach unfamiliar dogs or cats
Bats that enter homes should be saved for testing, especially if they are found in a bedroom, the department said. All animal bites and contact with wild animals should be reported to Franklin County Public Health at 518-481-1710
