Wis. (WSAW) – The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) has confirmed a Portage County deer farm has tested positive for chronic wasting disease
The National Veterinary Services Laboratories in Ames, Iowa, confirmed the positive result, which came from a three-year-old buck
The farm is under quarantine while DATCP and U.S. Department of Agriculture veterinarians and staff conduct an epidemiological investigation
CWD is a deadly neurological disease of deer, elk, and moose caused by an infectious protein called a prion that affects the animal’s nervous system
DATCP regulates deer farms for registration, recordkeeping, disease testing, movement, and permit requirements
