Miss. (WLBT) – Women across the Jackson metro attended the Women Inspiring Women Empowerment Luncheon, where entrepreneurs shared advice on starting a business, making time for themselves and overcoming obstacles
Panelists said it is important for women to prioritize themselves. Author and business CEO Maranda Joiner said self-awareness is the foundation of impact
“The more we empower more women to really identify and understand who they are and the impact they make — starting with themselves, which I think is the most valuable part — because we pour so much into others, if we start with ourselves, and understanding who we are, we’re much more powerful and impactful to those around us,” Joiner said
Guest speakers said events like the luncheon encourage women to strive for their goals. Entrepreneur and television personality Selena Johnson urged attendees to speak positively about themselves
“Don’t talk down on yourself because I know, as women, we talk down on ourselves with whatever we’re going through…we want to give up on life, but there are other people here that can listen to your story and you can inspire them to keep going,” Johnson said
Attendees enjoyed food alongside the empowering messages
Organizers said they want more women to uplift each other
Business owner and nurse manager Katina Washington said attending events like these can open unexpected doors
“A lot of times we negate coming to opportunities that await us in this setting, and we don’t know that’s actually the opportunity you’ve been waiting for. That’s the reason we need to come together. Learn how you can grow by having a simple conversation with some sisters,” Washington said
All proceeds from the luncheon benefit the Pretty Pink and Pampered cancer awareness association. Organizers said the funds will help women battling cancer feel encouraged
Women say the luncheon was more than a meal — it was a reminder that their story isn’t over yet
