Rock climbing gym Movement is opening another Portland-area location in a former department store space
Movement is taking over the shuttered Nordstrom at Clackamas Town Center. It will be the gym’s second Oregon location in a 31,000-square-foot space. The gym will have dedicated areas for rock climbing, bouldering, cardio and strength fitness area and yoga studio. The gym will also offer classes for climbers of all levels

The space is expected to open in 2027
“Our community has been asking us to expand,” Movement Portland gym director Kiana McDonald told the Business Journal. “We considered Clackamas because we realized a lot of our community members were driving out from Southeast to come and see us and we thought it would be a great area to bring climbing to.”
Movement opened its first Oregon location in Portland at the corner of Northwest Pettygrove and 14th Avenue 12 years ago. The gym also has locations in California, Colorado, Texas, Illinois and along the East Coast

The building will also house a Sky Zone trampoline park and indoor children’s playground Kids Empire, according to reporting from the Oregonian. An Oregon DMV office is also slated to open in the building
The tenants will stagger their openings throughout the next year
Nordstrom closed its Clackamas Town Center location in 2020 as part of a larger strategy that shuttered 15 other locations across the country during the pandemic
